The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) very kindly allotted an amenity plot No. St. 19, Block 6, Clifton Boat Basin
to the PYF which is now Pakistan Sailing Federation (PSF) in 1981. The purpose of the plot was to erect a boat club
there, the possession was given in Jan 1991.
The Federal and the Sindh Government very generously gave grants of Rs.10 Million and Rs.2 Million respectively to construct the club. The foundation stone was laid by Mr. Jam Sadiq Ali Sindh Chief Minister on 28 April 1991. The construction work started in Sep 1991. The club has constructed on are of about 4500 Sq Yards.
This has been done and the place named National Sailing Centre which is subsidiary of Pakistan Sailing Federation.
Pakistan Sailing Federation.
Until late 1960s, Sailing was limited to Karachi Yacht Club, Manora and PAF Yacht Club by its members mostly the Britishers. Pakistan Sailing Federation is the National Federation to promote the sport of sailing in Pakistan.
The federation was founded in 1969 and recognized by the government in 1978 when Byram Avari and Munir Sadiq
got Gold Medal in the Enterprise class in Thailand.
The two main objectives of the NSC are to be centre of excellence for all sailing requirements and secondly to
generate funds for promotion of sport. Seminars, class room instructions on the water will be held to produce
good quality yachtsmen, race managers, coaches, judges and boat measurers.
Children sailing shall receive attention.
Inauguration of National Sailing Centre
The inaugural ceremony of the National Sailing Centre was held on 22 December 1996 at the centre.
The chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mansurul Haque NI (M), S. Bt inaugurated the National Sailing Centre.
The first membership started in 1996 with two general and six service membership.
